Break a case into commission

Commission Calculator answers the question a client’s premium raises: what does this one case pay me, this year and every year after? It sorts the products into tabs, and each product gets its own card with the sum worked out.

It’s the second half of the calculator page, at /income-calculator/commission. The strip at the top switches between Income Calculator and Commission Calculator, and the app opens whichever you used last.

Note that the Commission Calculator is a district module of its own. Without it, the strip doesn’t appear and the page isn’t there. See Why a page or tab is missing for you.

2 dropdowns at the top apply to every product on the page.

YTD FYC Band is where your year-to-date FYC sits, and it sets your SPI rate. It opens on S$80,000 and above, at 36%. The bands run from Below S$15,000 at 0% up through 14%, 17%, 20% and on to 36%. The rate shows beside the box as SPI:.

Career Benefit Years picks your career benefit tier. It opens on No Career Benefit, at 0%. The tiers run from 1st to 3rd Year at 80% to 16th Year onwards at 110%. To read what the rate applies to, open the info mark beside Career Benefit Years.

To break a case down:

  1. Set YTD FYC Band and Career Benefit Years to your own.
  2. Pick the product’s tab.
  3. Type the premium into that product’s row in the table at the top.
  4. Drag Calculate for: on the product’s card to the number of years you want.
  5. Read Total Value on the card.

The tabs are ILP, Other ILP, Single, Whole Life, Endowment, USD, Protection, Hospital and Accident. The address keeps the tab, so a link opens on the same one.

On ILP, the box is Client's Budget, the whole amount over the premium term. The table divides it by the term to give Annual Premium. Every other tab takes the annual premium directly, and Single takes Single Premium Amount.

Calculate for: runs from 1 year up to the last year the product pays commission, and the card shows the choice as a number of years.

Total Value is everything the case pays over the years you picked. Beside it, FYC = gives the share of that total paid in year 1, with SPI and AI included.

2 lines can appear under it. The career benefit line gives the rate and the year 2 to 6 commission it’s applied to. APF (1.5% of premium from Y7+) appears once you’re counting 7 years or more.

View Commission Breakdown opens the year-by-year table. Each row gives the Commission rate and amount, then SPI, AI, Career Benefit and APF.

Year 1 commission is the product’s first-year rate times the annual premium. Each later year uses that product’s own rate for the year, and a year past the end of its commission reads as a dash.

SPI is your band’s rate on the year 1 commission, once. AI is the product’s own rate on the year 1 commission, also once.

Career benefit is your tier’s rate on the commission from years 2 to 6 added together. APF is 1.5% of the annual premium, for every year from year 7.

Is anything I type saved?

No. The bands, the premiums and the years all go back to their starting values when you leave the page. Only the tab stays in the address.

Why is my SPI 0%?

Your band is Below S$15,000, which earns no SPI. Pick the band your FYC is in this year.

Does the table at the top follow the card?

Yes. Its Years and Total Commission follow Calculate for: on that product’s card, so drag the slider and both move together.

Where do I project a whole career rather than one case?

On Income Calculator, the other half of the strip. See Project your income.
