What we can see on a number connected through Meta

When your number moves to Meta, WhatsApp keeps working on your phone in the WhatsApp Business app. Meta also sends the number’s one-to-one messages to us, so they show in the Inbox. Here’s what we keep, who can read it, and what never comes over.

It depends on what the number was set up as when it was added. The two kinds are explained in Connect or reconnect a WhatsApp number.

  • A business line treats every chat as work. A lead gets a contact card, and an AI agent if one is set up. Any other chat, like a friend or family, is still saved in the inbox for you. No agent answers it and no card is made.
  • Somebody’s own phone keeps only the people already in your lead sheet. A message to or from anyone else is dropped and never saved.
  • Group chats. Meta doesn’t pass them on for a number connected this way.
  • Your past chats and your contacts. We don’t import either from Meta.
  • Your Facebook account. You log in with Facebook in Meta’s window, but we use that login only to reach the WhatsApp number you picked. We never read your profile, friends or posts.

You, your district admins, and anyone the inbox or a chat has been shared with.

The number’s access key stays on our server. It’s never sent to a browser, and nobody can view it in the app.

WhatsApp’s encryption covers each message between your client’s phone and Meta. Meta then sends it to us over an encrypted, signed connection, and we store it so it shows in your inbox.

Meta switches a few app features off once a number is connected:

  • Disappearing messages and view once are turned off in one-to-one chats.
  • Live location is turned off in one-to-one chats.
  • Broadcast lists become read-only, and you can’t create new ones.
  • Linked devices are unlinked. You can link them again, except WhatsApp for Windows and WearOS.

Your groups, calls and business profile keep working on the phone as before.

To stop Meta sending the number’s messages to us, use the WhatsApp Business app on that phone:

  1. Open Settings, then Account.
  2. Press Business Platform.
  3. Press Disconnect Account.

Can my district admin read my personal chats?

On a business line, yes. Those chats are saved in the inbox, and a district admin can open any chat in the district. On a number set up as somebody’s own phone, chats with people outside your lead sheet are never saved, so nobody can read them.

Does ActivityTracker send messages as me?

Only what you or your district admin set up: a first message, an agent, a workflow, a broadcast, or a reply typed in the inbox. Moving the number to Meta sends nothing by itself.

Can you see my groups?

No. Meta doesn’t send group messages for a number connected this way.

Does Meta hand you my old chats when I connect?

No. We don’t import past chats or contacts from Meta. If the number was on Green API before, the chats it already saved stay in the inbox.
