Build and publish a course

A course is training your advisors work through in order: videos, readings, quizzes and assignments, grouped into modules. You build it as a draft, and nobody sees it until you publish it.

District admins build courses for the whole district. Agency managers and agency admins build them for their own agency.

To start one:

  1. In the rail, open Workspace, then press Courses under Learning.
  2. Press New course.
  3. Under Start with, pick Blank or a template, such as New advisor onboarding.
  4. For a blank course, type its Title.
  5. Under For, pick Everyone or one agency.
  6. Press Create and add lessons, or Create from template.

The course opens in the builder as a draft. A template comes with its modules and lessons written for you. Change every line in [brackets] and add your own videos.

For lists only the audiences you can build for. An agency manager sees just their agency.

The builder opens on Content. A new, empty course offers Paste an outline, or one button that adds 3 modules: Welcome, Learn and Check your understanding.

To add a lesson:

  1. Type its title in Add a lesson, press Enter, under the module it belongs to.
  2. Pick its type beside the box: Video, Reading, Quiz, Assignment or Practice. It starts on Reading.
  3. Press Enter.
  • Type a name in Add a module and press Module for another module.
  • Click any module or lesson name to rename it, and drag the dots beside it to change the order.
  • A lesson’s ... menu has Duplicate and Delete, and Move to once the course has 2 or more modules. A quiz with its questions in and no [brackets] left also has Run live, to play it with the room.
  • Opens at once beside a module can wait After 7 days, or any of the other choices, counted from the day each advisor starts the course.

Paste an outline turns typed text into modules and lessons in one go. A plain line is a module, and a line starting with - is a lesson in it.

  • Start a lesson with Video:, Reading:, Quiz:, Assignment: or Practice: to set its type. A lesson with no type is a reading.
  • A web link on the line, such as a YouTube video, makes it a video lesson.
  • End the line with its length, such as (5 min).

The dialog shows what you’ll get as you type. Press the button under it, which names how many modules and lessons it adds.

Press Edit on a lesson, fill it in, and press Save lesson.

  • A video lesson takes a link under Paste a link, or a file under Upload a file of up to 500 MB. Transcript (optional) puts the words under the video, and the course’s helper answers from them.
  • A reading takes its text under Lesson.
  • A quiz takes questions. Press Add question, give each one 2 to 6 answers, and pick the right one with the circle. Pass mark is 80% unless you change it.
  • An assignment takes What to hand in. Needs review is on to begin with, and puts every hand-in on your list to approve. Switch it off for a reflection, and the lesson completes when they hand it in.

Takes about sets the minutes a lesson needs, which the course adds up for the advisor.

The bar above the tabs says what still stands in the way, such as Before publishing: add 1 video. Publish stays off until that list is empty:

  • at least 1 lesson
  • a video on every video lesson
  • text or a file in every reading, and instructions in every assignment
  • questions in every quiz
  • a case written in every practice
  • no [bracketed] placeholder left from a template

Press Preview to see it the way an advisor will. Then press Publish, and everybody it’s for is told.

Unpublish takes it back to a draft, and advisors stop seeing it.

The Settings tab saves each field as you leave it.

  • What it covers is the description on the course’s card.
  • Cover image takes a picture of up to 5 MB, or an image link.
  • Finish lessons in order opens each lesson only once the one before it is done.
  • Finish by (optional) sets a due date. Advisors who haven’t finished by then are marked Overdue.
  • Duplicate as draft copies the course, so you can build a second version without touching the first.

Can I change a course after publishing it?

Yes. Each change saves as you make it, and advisors see it straight away. To rework one quietly, use Duplicate as draft.

How do I check who has done it?

Open Team progress on the same page. See Review assignments and follow team progress.

What does the advisor see?

The course, lesson by lesson, with a certificate at the end. See Take a course and get your certificate.
