Search anything and run commands with Cmd-K

⌘K on a Mac, or Ctrl+K anywhere else, opens one search box for the whole app. It finds pages and your own records, runs commands, answers questions about the app, and passes anything it can’t find to the assistant.

Press ⌘K or Ctrl+K on any page. Press it again to close. The magnifier in the header opens it too, and on a wide screen that button is a box reading Search or ask… with the shortcut printed inside it.

Before you type, the box offers what people open most:

  • Recent searches and Recent, your last 5 searches and the last 6 things you opened.
  • Jump to, with pages such as Log activities, Tasks, Notes and Goals.
  • Create, with New task, New note, Today's jot, Log an activity and Start a focus session.
  • Account, with Toggle dark mode, Replay the product tour and Sign out among others.
  • Try asking, 4 questions that go straight to the assistant.

Recents are kept on the device you searched on.

To search:

  1. Press ⌘K or Ctrl+K.
  2. Type a word or two.
  3. Move with the arrow keys and press Enter, or click the row.

Pages, commands and product answers match from the first letter. Your own tasks, notes, goals, logged activities, contacts and people join in once you’ve typed 2 characters.

The strongest 4 results sit under Best matches. Everything else is grouped by kind, 6 rows to a group, and a longer group says so, as 6 of 23. The line under the box counts them, as 12 matches or no matches.

Pages only appear if you can open them. A page your role or your district’s modules keep from you stays out of the results. See Why a page or tab is missing for you.

Start with a hash word to search one kind of thing:

  • #tasks, #notes, #goals, #badges and #shop search those records.
  • #pages, #actions and #answers search the app itself.
  • @ followed by a name searches people, as @jane.

A chip such as Tasks × appears under the box. Press it to search everything again.

Whatever you’ve typed can become a record. The Capture group sits under your results with New task and New note, each carrying your words.

Pick New task and your text becomes the task’s title. For the shorthand it reads, see Capture a task from anywhere.

Questions about the app, such as how to change your password, can match an answer under Answers. Open one and it reads out in the box, with Take me there, Ask a follow-up and Back to search. Escape takes you back to your results rather than closing the box.

When nothing matches, the assistant row moves to the top, so Enter sends your words to the assistant. Ask the assistant instead sits in the empty space below.

Can I use it on a phone?

Yes. Tap the magnifier in the header. Everything works the same, apart from the keyboard shortcuts.

Does Toggle dark mode change it for all my devices?

No. It changes the browser you’re using. See Switch between light and dark.

I searched for a teammate’s note and nothing came up. Why?

It searches what you can already see. Someone else’s private notes aren’t in it.
