OTE calculator: what an offer pays if you don't hit 100% of quota
OTE only pays out at full quota. Put in the offer and see the pay at the level you expect to reach.
The base, the variable, the quota
It takes a minute, and the answer changes as you type.
- 01Put in the base salary and the variable pay the plan says you'll get at 100%.
- 02Add the quota and where you think you'll finish: 75%, 100% or more.
- 03Add an accelerator, a cap or a floor if the plan has one, and read the table.
How the sum works
These numbers are made up. Put the same ones in and you'll get the same answer.
A S$60,000 base and S$40,000 at target is a S$100,000 OTE, a 60/40 mix.
On an S$800,000 quota, S$40,000 at target is 5% of sales. At 75% of quota that's S$30,000, so S$90,000 in all.
At 50% of quota it's S$80,000, and at 125% it's S$110,000.
With an accelerator of 1.5 times above quota, 125% pays S$115,000.
Accelerators, caps and floors
They're in the pay plan, not the job ad. Add the ones your plan has.
- An accelerator pays a higher rate above 100%. At 1.5 times, each dollar over quota pays 7.5% instead of 5%.
- A cap stops the variable at a set level. Capped at 150%, a 175% finish pays the same as 150%.
- A floor pays nothing below it. With a 50% floor, a 40% finish pays the base and nothing more.
When to run it
Put two offers in one after the other, and compare them at the same level of quota.
- 01Before you accept an offer with an OTE in it
- 02When two offers have different pay mixes
- 03When next year's plan comes out
- 04When you know where you'll finish
What Palby Sales Tracker adds
Palby Sales Tracker, which we make, doesn't work out pay. It shows the week's activity behind the quota.
- One tap logs a call, a meeting or a close, with undo
- Your own pace and your own streak on your phone
- A leaderboard for this week, this month or any dates
Questions
Base salary plus the variable pay at 100% of quota. A S$60,000 base and S$40,000 at target is a S$100,000 OTE. Our glossary's OTE entry has more.
Only at full quota. The base is fixed and the variable part depends on what you sell, so at 60% of quota you get well under the OTE.
The split between base and variable at target, written base first. S$60,000 and S$40,000 is a 60/40 mix.
The quota divided by the OTE. An S$800,000 quota on a S$100,000 OTE is 8 times, so you sell S$8 for each S$1 of pay at target.
The base, the quota, how the variable is paid below and above 100%, and how many reps on the team hit quota last year.
This one starts from the OTE and shows the pay at each level of quota. The commission calculator works out what a deal pays.
