MDRT requirements for 2027: how far are your advisers?

How far is each adviser? The 2027 Singapore figures from MDRT's own rulebook, what counts, and what the rest of 2026 still needs.

The 2027 MDRT requirements in Singapore

An adviser qualifies for 2027 by reaching one of these figures on business paid to them from 1 January to 31 December 2026. Court of the Table (COT) is three times the MDRT figure and Top of the Table (TOT) is six times.

MethodMDRTCourt of the TableTop of the Table
CommissionS$75,800S$227,400S$454,800
PremiumS$227,400S$682,200S$1,364,400
IncomeS$131,300S$393,900S$787,800
DuesUS$600US$650US$1,150
  • They qualify under one method only. MDRT's rulebook says applicants "may not combine production credit" across methods.
  • At least half of a commission or premium figure has to come from risk-protection products: S$37,900 of commission or S$113,700 of premium.
  • The rulebook makes applications for 2027 available from 1 November 2026. The deadline is 15 March 2027, and after that MDRT adds US$200.

MDRT is a figure to qualify. It isn't a promise about what anyone will earn. Every figure on this page comes from MDRT's rulebook dated 15 October 2026, its Singapore chart or mdrt.org/join.

As of November 2026.

What to do when an adviser asks about MDRT

Start with what's been paid to them since 1 January 2026, by method, and put it against MDRT's monthly chart for Singapore. Then go through which open cases can realistically be paid by 31 December.

MDRT's chart splits the year evenly, so read it as a pace to check against. Missing a month doesn't rule anyone out.

End of monthCommissionPremiumIncome
September 2026S$56,850S$170,550S$98,475
October 2026S$63,167S$189,500S$109,417
November 2026S$69,483S$208,450S$120,358
December 2026S$75,800S$227,400S$131,300

The rulebook's production year ends on 31 December 2026, so an adviser who's short has until then for the business to be paid. One who's already over the figure can start on the application. Whatever's paid from 1 January 2027 falls outside the 2027 rulebook.

What MDRT is, and why 2027 runs on 2026

MDRT is the Million Dollar Round Table. Its About page calls it an association of life insurance and financial services professionals, founded in 1927 by 32 life insurance producers, with members from more than 80 nations and territories and nearly 700 companies.

Membership lasts one year and everyone applies again each year. Because MDRT counts production from the previous calendar year, the figure your advisers need now carries next year's date.

Commission, premium or income: which method needs less

Commission adds up eligible commission paid to the adviser in the year. A company official signs a certifying letter to confirm it.

Premium adds up eligible premium paid on their cases, with the same kind of letter. In Singapore the premium figure is three times the commission figure, so the sum is short. If first-year commission averages more than a third of first-year premium, commission needs less business. Under a third, premium needs less. Single premium plans change that, because they earn only 6% credit under premium.

Income adds up gross income from selling insurance and financial products, which takes in first-year, renewal and trail commission, fees, and production-based salary and bonuses. It takes S$131,300, including at least US$46,000 from new business and US$46,000 from risk-protection products, and the rulebook gives those two minimums in US dollars only. The same new life policy can count towards both.

The rulebook says first-time qualifiers have been able to use income since the 2026 membership year. The adviser signs the income letter themselves, so expect a possible audit: MDRT can ask for commission statements or tax documents later.

Certifying letters report in US dollars. Divide the Singapore figure by MDRT's factor: 0.8239 for commission, 1.2358 for premium and 0.8206 for income. S$75,800 divided by 0.8239 comes to about US$92,000, the rulebook's commission figure. MDRT says these factors have no relationship to exchange rates.

What counts towards MDRT, and what doesn't

MDRT splits products into two groups. Its risk-protection group holds life, critical illness, disability income, accidental death and dismemberment, long-term care and annuities, individual or group, plus single premium and short-term endowment. Its second group, called Investment, Advisory Services and Health Insurance, holds health insurance, mutual funds, securities, wrap accounts and fees for advice.

Nothing from the second group counts until the risk-protection half is reached. In MDRT's own example, US$46,000 of risk-protection commission plus US$100,000 from the second group is credited US$146,000. With US$45,999 of risk-protection commission, the credit is US$45,999.

Securities100% of commission or fee on new money6% of new money invested
Financial planning fees, fees for advice100% of the net fee100% of the gross fee

These don't count under commission or premium: override commission, training allowances, transition packages, training or sign-on bonuses, and other sales or expense allowances.

Under income, overrides count only on personal production. Incentive trips, general insurance income, mortgage sales, life settlements and money market accounts don't count at all.

Five more rules from the rulebook:

  • No credit counts until the home office has accepted the premium and the first-year commission has been paid or credited, inside 1 January to 31 December.
  • A policy terminated on or before 31 December doesn't count, unless it ended by death or term conversion.
  • On a replaced individual life policy, credit covers only the amount by which the new first-year commission or premium beats the old one's.
  • Business on the adviser, their spouse or dependants is capped at 5% of the requirement if they or their spouse pay any premium, which is US$4,600 of commission or about S$3,790 at MDRT's factor.
  • If annualised commission is charged back in a later production year, that year's credit drops by the same amount.

How much COT and TOT need

COT takes S$227,400 of commission and TOT takes S$454,800. The risk-protection threshold stays at the entry level, so it's still S$37,900 of commission or S$113,700 of premium before anything from the second group counts. Under income, both keep the US$46,000 minimums.

MDRT's rulebook adds US$50 to the US$600 dues for COT and US$550 for TOT, which includes the COT dues. A member with at least 10 years of TOT membership who falls short can apply under a TOT waiver, and still pays TOT dues.

Working back to cases a week

Every number here except S$75,800 is made up to show the sums. Use your adviser's own.

Made-up sumsFull yearFrom 2 November 2026
Commission still neededS$75,800S$35,800 (S$40,000 already paid)
Cases at S$1,500 of first-year commission5124
First meetings at 1 case from every 315372
Weeks left488.4
Cases a week1.12.8
First meetings a week3.28.5

Those cases also have to be paid by 31 December, so the real window is shorter than 8.4 weeks. The sums show how far a figure is and say nothing about income. Whether a product suits a client is a separate question that a weekly number never answers.

The MDRT calculator runs the same sums from an adviser's own figure.

How to apply, and the deadline

  1. For commission or premium, get a certifying letter signed by a company official, or MDRT may treat the application as incomplete. For income, the adviser signs their own.
  2. Apply online at mdrt.org. MDRT's FAQ says it takes about 10 minutes with the documents ready, and that approval comes once the steps are done and dues are paid.
  3. Pay the dues by 15 March 2027 to avoid the US$200 late fee.

MDRT moved the 2027 deadline from 1 March to 15 March, and the rulebook and the FAQ on mdrt.org/join now both say 15 March. The FAQ adds: "No applications are accepted after December 31 for the previous year."

MDRT's FAQ says a withdrawal before approval gets a full refund and one after approval gets none. If it denies an application, MDRT refunds all fees.

Anyone asking for a disability waiver for the first time, or with an ethics complaint against them, has to use a paper application.

Applying also means following MDRT's code of ethics, which has seven points. Two matter most to an adviser chasing a figure late in the year: put the client's interests above their own, and replace a product only when that benefits the client.

Common mistakes

  • Working to an older figure. Check that a chart says 2027 at the top.
  • Counting overrides and allowances under commission or premium.
  • Adding commission from one policy to premium from another.
  • Counting health insurance or mutual fund commission before the risk-protection half is reached.
  • Closing the year on December cases that aren't paid until January.
  • Writing too much on family, over the 5% cap.
  • Missing 15 March and paying US$200 more.

Palby Sales Tracker and MDRT pace

Your advisers log each set, opening and closing in one tap, and the board moves within seconds. A closed case records each policy with its annualised premium and first-year commission. A separate board shows FYC month to date and year to date, and pace to MDRT, COT and TOT reads from the FYC logged so far.

It shows the pace and stops there, because MDRT goes by the certifying letter. See how it works for agency managers.
