How many calls to make a sale? Work it back from your goal
Start with your goal and your own rates. See the deals, meetings and calls it takes, a year, a week and a day.
Your steps, from the deal back to the first call
Your goal, your rates, your week
It takes about a minute, and the answer changes as you type.
- 01Put in your goal: income, sales or deals, for the year or the month.
- 02Add your own rates: how many meetings make a deal, and how many calls make a meeting.
- 03Put in the weeks and days you'll work, and read what each week needs.
How the sum works
These rates are made up. Use the ones from your own last quarter.
S$60,000 of income at 10% takes S$600,000 in sales. At S$8,000 a deal, that's 75 deals.
If 1 meeting in 4 closes, 75 deals take 300 meetings.
If 1 conversation in 3 books a meeting and 1 call in 7 is a conversation, that's 900 conversations and 6,300 calls.
Over 46 weeks, that's 137 calls a week. Each count is rounded up, so the chain can't come out short.
Find your own rates
Count one finished quarter. The calculator is only as good as the rates you give it.
- Deals closed, meetings held and calls made in the same period
- Meetings divided by deals is your "1 in"
- Calls divided by meetings is the next one up
- A new rep's rates differ, so count them apart
When to run it
Run it when the number changes.
- 01When you set the year's number
- 02When a rep asks if their week is enough
- 03When a rate moves, up or down
- 04Part way through the year, with what's done so far
What Palby Sales Tracker adds
Palby Sales Tracker, which we make, counts what the team logs rather than setting the week's calls from a goal.
- One tap logs a call or a meeting, with undo
- Trends, who has gone quiet and a report to download, on the manager's Analytics tab
- Tiles you rename, so a team can log calls, demos and proposals
Questions
It depends on your rates. If 1 call in 7 is a conversation, 1 conversation in 3 books a meeting and 1 meeting in 4 closes, it's 84 calls a deal, so put in your own.
One that works down from calls to deals, or up from a goal to calls. This one works up, because that's the question a rep has: is my week enough?
Your own, counted from a finished quarter. A rate from someone else's team gives you someone else's answer.
You can't book part of a meeting. Each step is rounded up before the next one is worked out, so the chain can't come out short.
Turn on "Starting mid-year" and put in what's done and the weeks left. The sum runs on what's left.
The commission calculator works out what a deal pays. This one starts from the goal and works back to the week's calls.
Yes, the tool is free. There's no account, and the sums run in your browser, so your numbers stay on this page. Copy link keeps them in the link.
