Commission calculator: what this deal pays you, and how much you need to sell to reach your number
Put in your sales and your plan. See what you're paid after tiers, splits and base pay, with each step written out.
Your plan, your sales, your pay
It takes about a minute, and the answer changes as you type.
- 01Pick how you're paid: one rate, tiers, or a quota with a higher rate above it.
- 02Put in your sales and your rate. Add base pay, a split or a draw if you have one.
- 03Read your pay, with each tier and split shown so you can check it.
How commission is worked out
These numbers are made up. Put the same ones in and you'll get the same answer.
One rate: S$48,000 in sales at 7.5% is S$3,600.
A split: S$100,000 at 5% is S$5,000. If you keep 60% of a shared deal, that's S$3,000.
Tiers: 5% up to S$25,000, 8% up to S$50,000 and 10% above. On S$62,000 that's S$1,250 + S$2,000 + S$1,200 = S$4,450.
A quota: S$4,000 base, a S$40,000 quota at 10% and 15% above it. Sell S$52,000 and it's S$5,800 in commission, S$9,800 for the month.
Work backwards from your number
The second tab starts from the income you want and your rate.
- S$60,000 a year at 10% takes S$600,000 in sales
- At S$8,000 a deal, that's 75 deals, about 6 a month
- If you close 1 meeting in 4, that's 300 meetings a year, about 6 a week
When to run it
Run the numbers when your pay gets decided.
- 01Before you agree a split with another rep
- 02When your statement arrives and a figure looks low
- 03When you're choosing between two plans
- 04When you set the number for the year
What Palby Sales Tracker adds
Palby Sales Tracker, which we make, doesn't work out your pay. It shows the activity behind it.
- One tap logs a call, a meeting or a close, with undo
- A leaderboard for this week, last week, this month or any dates
- Your own streak and your own pace, on your phone
- A manager's view of who's on pace and who has gone quiet
Questions
Multiply your sales by your rate. S$20,000 at 8% is S$1,600. Tiers, a quota or a split each add a step, and the calculator shows each one.
Most tiered plans pay each rate only on the sales inside its band. Some pay the top rate you reach on every dollar. On S$62,000 with tiers of 5%, 8% and 10%, that's S$4,450 against S$6,200, so check which yours is.
A higher rate on sales above your quota. At 10% with 15% above quota, every dollar past quota pays 15%. Sales below quota still pay 10%.
Multiply the shares. If you keep half and your company keeps 30% of your half, you take home 35% of the commission. Put each split in and the calculator multiplies them.
Money you're paid before commission comes in. With a S$2,500 draw and S$1,800 earned, you're paid S$2,500. If the draw is recoverable, the S$700 comes off next month's commission.
There isn't one. It swings with what you sell and who pays you, so put in the rate from your own plan.
Usually on sales. Some plans pay on gross margin. For a margin plan, put in the margin as your sales figure.
