- 02A WhatsApp button on your website's contact page
- 03Your email signature
- 04The QR code on your name card, flyer or shop counter
Why some WhatsApp links open the wrong chat
Four mistakes the generator fixes before you share the link. Put the same numbers in and you'll get the same links.
In the UK, 07700 900123 becomes wa.me/447700900123. The 0 you dial at home comes out and 44 goes in front. Leave the 0 in and WhatsApp can't find the number.
The +, the spaces, the dashes and the brackets all come out, so +1 (202) 555-0147 becomes wa.me/12025550147. WhatsApp asks for digits only.
An & in your message becomes %26. Left as it is, "After 3pm & before 5" arrives as "After 3pm", because the link reads the rest as something else.
A digit short gets caught. Singapore numbers have 8 digits after +65, so 8123 456 gets a warning, not a link.
Message a number you haven't saved
Three ways, from WhatsApp's own help pages. The first two need nothing but WhatsApp.
In WhatsApp, tap New chat and type the whole number into the search bar, with the country code if it's from abroad. If the number has WhatsApp, tap Chat and write.
In a browser, open wa.me/ and then the number in international format, with no zeros, brackets or dashes in front. The chat opens on your phone or on WhatsApp Web.
If you'll send people to the same number again and again, make the link once above, with your first message typed in, and keep the QR code.
When the link starts bringing in chats
The link opens an ordinary chat. Palby AI Agent, which we make, answers it on the same number.
- It answers the enquiry in your words, from your price list and website
- It offers your free times and books the slot
- It hands the hot ones to a person, with the reason
- Your team sees every chat in one inbox, with notes the customer never sees
Questions
It's WhatsApp's own click to chat address. Tap it and a chat with that number opens, on a phone or on WhatsApp Web, without saving the number first.
Type the whole number into the search bar under New chat, or open wa.me/ followed by the number in a browser. WhatsApp's help page on finding contacts shows the first way; it only works if the number has WhatsApp.
Yes. A wa.me link opens the chat on WhatsApp Web as well as on a phone, so paste it into the browser where WhatsApp Web is open.
Almost always the number. It needs the country code, and none of the 0, +, spaces or brackets you'd dial at home. Check that the number reads back right above the link, and that it has WhatsApp.
Yes. What you write goes into the link, and it's typed into the chat when they open it. They can change it before they send.
Yes. A link with only a message, wa.me/?text= and the words, opens the person's contact list, so they choose who to send it to.
Put in your number and the QR code appears beside the link. For a code to print, with a line of words under it, use the QR code generator.
Yes. The link opens a chat with the number, whichever WhatsApp app is on it.
Yes. The link opens an ordinary chat, so your away message, quick replies or an AI agent answer it the same way they answer any other.
Nothing for a link: it costs nothing to make or to open. Meta charges per message only on its Business API, and since 1 October 2026 replies past 1,000 a month per number are charged too. Meta's pricing page has the rates.
Yes. There's no account to make, and a wa.me link has no expiry: it works for as long as your number has WhatsApp.
