Sales velocity calculator: what your pipeline earns a day, and the number to move first
Put in your open deals, average deal, win rate and days to close. You get revenue a day, the formula with your numbers, and what 10% on each would add.
Four numbers you already know
There are no averages built in. Take them from the last quarter.
- 01Count your open opportunities: everyone who's had a quote or is weighing one up.
- 02Put in your average deal, your win rate and how many days a deal takes from first contact to a yes.
- 03Change the test percentage to see what moving each number by that much would add.
How the sum works
The formula sits under the result, filled in with your numbers.
Sales velocity = open opportunities x average deal x win rate, divided by days to close.
40 opportunities x S$5,000 x 25%, over 60 days, is S$833 a day.
That's S$25,000 a month, at 30 days, and about S$304,000 a year.
A 10% shorter cycle, 54 days, takes it to S$926 a day. More opportunities or bigger deals add S$83 each.
Which number to work on first
The calculator shows what the same percentage does to each, so you can see the biggest.
- More opportunities: more enquiries, or more of them followed up
- Bigger deals: more on each quote, or the better customers first
- A higher win rate: chasing the quotes that went quiet
- A shorter cycle: replying the same day, and a date on every next step
When to run it
The number moves when one of the four does, so check it when they change.
- 01At the start of each quarter
- 02After a month of more enquiries than usual
- 03Before you change your prices
- 04When deals start taking longer to close

Palby CRM, which we make, keeps every open deal in a stage, with its amount and close date.
- Your own stages, on a board or a grid
- Several deals per customer, each with an amount and a close date, adding up to a weighted forecast
- A follow-up date on every customer, and today's list of everyone due
- Cards that sit too long in one stage get flagged on the board
Questions
It's how much revenue your pipeline brings in a day, worked out from four numbers, which our glossary's entry sets out: open opportunities, average deal, win rate and the days a deal takes to close.
Multiply open opportunities by the average deal and the win rate, then divide by the days to close. The calculator does it with your numbers and shows the sum.
There isn't one number. It depends on your deal size and how many customers you can serve. Compare your own figure quarter by quarter.
Yes. Pipeline velocity and sales velocity are two names for the same formula.
Because the cycle divides. Cut it by 10% and the other three numbers stay the same, so revenue a day goes up by about 11%.
Count the customers who've had a quote or are deciding. Someone who only asked a question can wait. Count them the same way each time so the numbers compare.
Deals won out of every deal that finished, with the ones that went quiet counted as lost. The win rate calculator works it out.
Yes, the tool is free, with no account to make. The Copy link button saves your numbers in the link, so you can come back to them next quarter.
