OmniFocus alternative

OmniFocus alternative: type a task the way you'd say it, and get on with the day

OmniFocus is built for Getting Things Done, with views you shape yourself. Palby Planner has less to set up: one line adds a task with its date, project and label, and Today shows what's due.

Where OmniFocus is strong

OmniFocus is the deep end of task managers. Forecast shows what is coming, custom perspectives group your actions any way you like, and the weekly review keeps you up to date. It runs on Mac, iPhone, iPad, watch and Vision Pro, with a web version for Android or PC, and you can buy it once or subscribe. If you run Getting Things Done properly, it fits better.

The three differences that matter

Nothing to configure

Type "dentist fri 3pm #health" and it is on Friday at 3pm in your health project. Today shows what is due, and Upcoming shows the next 14 days.

Your calendar is part of the plan

Google Calendar events sit beside your tasks on a timetable. Drag a task onto an hour and the time can go back onto Google as busy.

The rest of the day comes with it

Routines that come back on the days you pick, habits with a streak, goals with a monthly figure and a 25-minute focus timer, in the same account.

Switching in three steps

  1. Book a 30-minute walkthrough and see the planner on your own week.
  2. Add this week's actions as tasks. There's no import from OmniFocus yet.
  3. Give each area its own project, and use labels where you used tags.

Questions
