How to get your Google review link from your Place ID

Your Place ID is the code Google gives your business on Maps. Google's own Place ID finder shows it.

  1. 01Open Google's Place ID finder and type your business name in the search box on the map.
  2. 02Pick your business from the list, and copy the Place ID that shows on the map.
  3. 03Paste it above, open the link once to check it's your business, then copy it or download the QR code.

Losing reviews from customers who meant to leave one?

When you tell someone to look you up on Google and leave a review, they have to search, find your profile and find the button, and plenty of people stop partway. The link opens the review box without any of that.

  • The link opens the review box for your business, with the stars ready to tap
  • They sign in to Google if they aren't already, then the box opens
  • The QR code holds Google's own link, so there's no other website in between to stop working
  • Test it on your own phone before you print it

Ask the day you finish the job, while it's fresh

Send the message the same day, or put the QR code where people already look.

  • 01In the thank-you message after the job
  • 02On the receipt or the invoice
  • 03By the till, where people pay
  • 04On your name card or in your email signature

What you're allowed to do when you ask

Google's help page puts it plainly: "Offering incentives, like free or discounted goods or services, to customers in exchange for reviews is considered fake engagement and is strictly prohibited."

  • Ask every customer. Google's rules say not to "selectively solicit positive reviews from customers".
  • No discount, gift or free service in return for a review
  • Don't tell anyone what to write, or ask them to name a staff member
  • Don't pressure anyone to review while they're still at your shop

Put the review ask on the day after the job, so you don't forget

The generator is free. ActivityTracker, the app we make, is paid. It doesn't collect or answer reviews. It keeps the ask on your list.

  • Type the ask with a day, like "ask Mrs Tan for a review Friday", and the date fills in
  • A task for each customer you still have to ask, dated for the day after the job
