Sales pledge meaning: a promise of activity, not of results

A sales pledge is a rep's written commitment to a number of sales activities in a period, such as 40 calls and 4 sets a week, usually worked back from their goal and shared with their manager or team.

How it works

The word gets used for two things. Some companies ask reps to sign a pledge of conduct: to be honest with customers, to follow up, to keep their promises. In most sales teams, though, a pledge is a number: the activity you commit to before the week starts.

The activity kind works because it's yours to control. You can't promise three deals by Friday, but you can promise the calls and meetings that usually produce them. It's worked back from your goal through your conversion rates, written down, often on a pledge sheet, and checked every week.

Worked example, with made-up rates: your goal is 3 deals a month and you close 1 in 4 held meetings, so you need 12 meetings. 3 in 4 sets turn into a held meeting, so that's 16 sets, and 1 in 10 calls books a set, so 160 calls. Over four weeks your pledge is 40 calls, 4 sets and 3 held meetings a week.

You set a pledge yourself, in activity. A quota is set for you, in sales, and it's what your pay is measured against. Keep the pledge within reach, because one you miss every week stops meaning anything.

In ActivityTracker, your pledge is the weekly activity you commit to, worked out from your goal in the app. The leaderboard shows it in points beside what you've logged, so you and your manager can see your pace all week, and a month's target is four weekly pledges. A manager can set a bar, such as 30% of the pledge, and the board marks who's under it.

Where it shows up in your week

A pledge only helps if someone sees it before Friday. The sales leaderboard puts your points beside your own target for the week, and ranks the team on everything they log. The pledge sheet turns your pledge into a page to print or share, with what each day needs. The sales accountability guide shows the weekly loop a pledge sits in.
